| Billingen is a 30 kilometers long and 10 wide mountain
west of Skövde. The part of the mountain situated south
of Skara-Skövde road (road 46) is called Syd-billingen.
It is 35 km2 of wilderness, and the central part of the
area forms a large nature reserve.
Syd-billlingen
consists mainly of peat moss, marsh and coniferous woodland, and most
of it is unaffected by felling and ditching. The largest peat mosses Storemossen,
Degramossen, Säxtingen, Söakullen and Orrakycklingen. Here are also three
lakes; Bjärsjö, Svarttjärn and Simsjön.
The peat mosses and the wetlands have an abundance of
bird species, as curlew, golden plover, common snipe among
others. In the unspoiled forests one finds goshawk, hazelhen
and rare species seldom seen. In other words, Billingen
is a in leisure paradise, popular all the year round.
Enjoy wonderful untouched nature, fish in the lake Hållsdammen
or swim in the most beautifully situated outdoor pool.
Wintertime this a perfect place for skiing, skating and
other snow activities.
