An
interesting place, 20 kilometres north of Simrishamn, is Kivik. Kivik is
especially famous for the Kivik Market which is probably the largest travelling
pleasure ground in Scandinavia, and for the popular books by Fritiof Nilsson-Piraten.
In Kivik is also Äpplets Hus - the house of the apple - where everything
you need to know about apples in all its forms and shapes is exhibited.
Visit the fruit chamber - where old time, Scandinavian recipes and preservations
are carefully conserved, and Åkessons Historical Stockroom where the
history of apple farming has been documented. Also visit the factory, the
knowledge storehouse, the cultivation, the farm and the cider cellar.

If you are interested in history, don´t miss the opportunity to see
one of the largest ancient monuments in Sweden. The King´s grave -
Kungagraven - from the Bronze Age has a diameter of 75 metres.
Some 10 kilometres southwest of Simrishamn we find the beautiful medieval
castle Glimmingehus. The castle was presumably built by Jens Holgersen
Ulfstand in the year of 1499. The castle, the shop, the medieval kitchen
and herb garden are all open to the public, and there is also a restaurant
and a café. Every year a medieval festival is held, and the castle
and the castle courtyard is teeming with activity, music, jesters, dancing
and tournaments.

15 kilometres north of Simrishamn is Stenshuvud national park, one of the
richest in species in our country. Here are deciduous forests and moors
with a unique flora. To keep the moors open and to preserve the rich flora,
the cows have returned back out to pasture betesdjur again, an old fashioned
method that works very well. A good way to get to know the area and learn
more is to follow the footpath Skåneleden where information and knowledgeable
staff is at hand.
