Sights to see
Besväret and Fnyket
Stroll on narrow cobbled streets among the well-preserved wooden houses
from the 19th century in the oldest part of Oskarshamn.
Långa soffan - "the Long Bench"
Stop for a while and enjoy the view from the longest wooden sofa in
the world. The Long Sofa was built in 1867 and is 72 metres in length.
From here you can see the harbour and the islands Furön and Blå
Jungfrun (the Blue Maiden) in the distance.

The Döderhultarn Studio
Döderhultarn rented a room on the second floor in Charadotes´
little house on Garvaregatan 9 in Oskarshamn. This picturesque and bachelors
room was both lodging and carpentry. Here Döderhultarn carved in
wooden blocks with his simple tools and made marvellous works of art.
The collection of his sculptures is now shown at the Döderhultar
museum.
The Döderhultar Museum
Visit a living museum where the milieu,
true to the period, tells us about the wood-carver Axel Petersson "Döderhultarn"
(1868-1925) and about the time he lived. In his small sculptures made
of wood he brilliantly and humorously describes the life in Småland
at the turn of the century.The Döderhultar Museum is together with
the Maritime Museum situated in the centre of Oskarshamn.
The Maritime Museum
A visit at the Maritime Museum gives an exciting insight into the development
of the shipping trade in Oskarshamn. A large collection of maritime paintings
and ship models bring you on a historic tour from the very first boats,
which were built in the 10th century, to the shipbuilding industry of
the 20th century.

The
Art Gallery of Oskarshamn
A varying choice of exhibitions for both children and adults. Art, handicraft,
historic and scientific exhibitions etc. The art gallery is placed at the
entrance of Kulturhuset.

Fredriksberg Manor House
This estate in new classical style with a history from the
18th century is a very beautiful cultural document.
The estate structure is preserved unchanged. In the state
apartment there are interesting murals,
magnificent tiled stoves and delicate carpentry.
The museum has also a fine book collection from the 1780´s and one
of the largest collections of minerals in Sweden. Coffee shop and music
café open in the summertime.

Blå Jungfrun - "The Blue Maiden"
The legendary island Blå Jungfrun - Blåkulla - rises 86 metres
above sea-level in the middle of the Kalmar Straits. During Easter, all
Easter witches travel to this island on their brooms, according to the old
tradition. You can go by boat from Oskarshamn to the national park Blå
Jungfrun. Here you find unique nature, caves, giant hollows eroded by the
sea and an exciting labyrinth.

Stensjö
by - "The Village of Stensjö"
Stensjö villages takes you far back in time. Enjoy the
scenery around the undivided village, still cultivated in an
old-fashioned manner, with buildings from the 18th and 19th century. Three
winding paths will leed you through these charming surroundings.
