Only a few minutes walk from the main train station, you will find the
main square, Stortorget and the squares smaller neighbour
Lilla Torg (the Little Square). Lilla Torg is famous among other things
for its outdoor cafés and bars in the summertime, and is a perfect
starting point from which to discover the old town encircled by the citys
canals, as well as the exciting town centre for shopping, entertainment
and over 300 cafés and restaurants.
Distances are short and large department stores and small, fashionable
boutiques can all be found within easy walking distance of each other.
The main shopping area runs from Stortorget and Lilla Torg, through Södergatan,
via Gustav Adolfs Torg (Gustav Adolfs Square), continuing southwards
along Södra Förstadsgatan, to Triangeln and on.
Most of this area is pedestrianised, so you can enjoy your shopping without
having to contend with traffic, and appreciate everything on offer. This
is a lively area, particularly in summer when the outdoor cafés
and restaurants come to life.
Hansa, Triangeln and the newly built Baltzar City are some of the larger
shopping centres along the pedestrian zone. Also, be sure not to miss
Möllevången, one of the most colourful districts in Malmö
featuring shops and restaurants from all over the world, five minutes
by foot from the pedestrian zone
Shopping hours are excellent - on weekdays, shops and department stores
are open between 10am and 6pm or 7pm, and on Saturdays between 10am and
around 3pm. Department stores and shopping centres are also open on Sundays
from midday to 4pm. On the last Saturday of every month the shops are
open longer and have special offers. Entertainment and performances often
take place on the streets and squares.
