Malmö Museums

When Malmö Museums are mentioned people generally mean Malmöhus
Castle. But actually the museum consist of the Art Museum, the Museum
of Natural History, the City Museum and the Science & Technology/Maritime
Museum, and all of them are located in or around the castle.
Many local citizens remember their first visit there, and the museums
are probably unique in Europe because of the diversity of their collections.
Malmö Museums was founded in 1841 and also includes the Carriage Museum,
Ebba's House, the Wowra Farm, the Castle Mill, the Fishermen's Huts, the
Museum Tramway and the Limestone Furnace at Klagshamn
Malmöhus Castle
Malmöhus Castle is the oldest conserved renaissance castle in Scandinavia.
There are still some visible remains of Erik of Pommern´s citadel
from 1434 in the castle that was completed in the middle of the 16th century.
The Danish kings stayed here when they where in Malmö, and this was
also where the adventurous Earl James Bothwell, the third husband of Maria
Stuart, was imprisoned for five years.

Governor's House
Commissioned
by King Gustav III this house was built in the late 18th century as a
new fabric house for the fortress of Malmöhus. After having been used
as a museum for 30 years, the building was renovated in 1999, and today
it mainly houses temporary exhibitions, workshops and educational activities.

The Science & Technology/Maritime Museum
Everything
from muscle-power to electricity. Technical development in motor and air
transport, steam and diesel engines are presented in the museum as well
as the industrial and shipping history of the region. An interactive scientific
"knowledge amusement park" delights those who like experimenting.
The regions harbours technical development from the 17th century and
the Scanian ferry traffic is also represented.On display are both ship
models and real ones such as the submarine U 3 and the steam sloop Schebo.
The
Fishermen's Huts, Banerskajen
The old-fashioned Fishermen´s Huts are still in use to this day.
Here it´s possible to buy fresh fish in the mornings.

The
Carriage Museum, Drottningtorget
Open Fri 9-16,
July-Aug also Sun 11-15.
Situated in the house of the hussars from early 19th century. One of the
most distinguished collections in Scandinavia of horse powered carts and
bicycles.

Malmö
at the turn of the century -Ebba's House, Snapperupsgatan 10

The smallest museum in Malmö is situated in a small family house, left
untouched since around 1910. When entering, one steps right into the Olsson
family´s home as it looked back then. Everything is there, the furniture,
the wood stove - so typical of that time, the zinc sink and the outhouse.

The
Wowra Farm, Södra Sallerup
Open in the summer
Half-timbered house dating back to the 17th century. See the original
tools that the farmers and crofters used and utility goods used in the
local, typical processing of foodstuffs.
