|
Cathedral Square
|

This is, no doubt, one of the key locations of public life. This is the
crossing of the main city streets, fairs and gatherings of townspeople,
military parades, religious and official public events, attractions for
townsfolk and highest level concerts, New Year’s salutes and even
some exhibitions are held here. |
The Old Town

The central Pilies Street linked the governors’ palace and the Town
Hall. Other streets, winding like rivulets in the spring, made their way
between the palaces of feudal lords and landlords, churches, shops and craftsmen
workrooms.
Narrow, curved streets and small cosy courtyards developed to the radial
layout of the medieval Vilnius. |
St.Anne´s Church
According to legend, in the 19 th century Napoleon wanted to carry this
Gothic masterpiece to France on the palm of his hand as a small and fragile
jewel. |
KGB Museum
During the Soviet occupation, people were tortured in the underground chambers.
Now, former inmates are the guides who take you on excursions through the
same KGB cells in which they were imprisoned. |
