National and regional parks

There are five national and thirty regional parks in Lithuania abounding in most aesthetic natural features of the Lithuanian landscape, wildlife habitats and places of ethnographic interest. Pitching a tent, making a fire, driving or parking in national and regional parks is allowed only in certain places, therefore guests are kindly asked to seek advice from the park management. The management encourages ecological tourism in the parks, provide all kinds of information about the routes and offer guided tours. Pitching a tent is prohibited in reserves, however, the visitor can get acquainted with the valuable reminders of the local heritage, including farm buildings, agricultural implements and folk sculptures preserved in these parks if a specialist on protected areas accompanies him on his tour.

The Aukðtaitija National Park is a Mecca for water lovers, cyclists, ramblers and skiers. It offers plenty of routes for different ways of travelling.
