Ströget
|
Your shopping tour starts here.... Strøget runs right through the
heart of Copenhagen from Kgs. Nytorv to Rådhuspladsen and
along its length, the dopplered sound of street performers fill the air.
The stretch closest to Rådhuspladsen is mainly dedicated to young fashion
and further along, several of the major fashion chains like H&M and Esprit
as well as Company’s (Danish In Wear and Matinique) have their flagship
stores. Although you may be familiar with what they have to offer, they're
worth a visit purely for the decor and their wide selections.

The Little Mermaid
|
In
1909 Brewer Carl Jacobsen attended the ballet "The Little Mermaid" based
on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale by the same name. Deeply impressed
by this performance the brewer asked sculptor Edvard Eriksen (1876-1958)
to create a sculpture. The model was Edvard Eriksen's wife. The bronze statue
was unveiled at Langelinie on August 23. 1913 as a donation from Brewer
Jacobsen to the City of Copenhagen. |
The Royal Palaces
|
Did you know that Denmark is the oldest kingdom in the world?
Hamlet at Kronborg Castle may be the most wellknown Danish royalty,
but long before he was ever heard of, King Gorm - and after him -
Harold I Bluetooth reigned the country. It was in 1417 that the royal
residence was moved to Copenhagen, and since then the city has been
the royal capital of Denmark.

The Round Tower
|
The Round Tower, Rundetårn, is one of the most magnificent
buildings in Copenhagen. Inside is a unique spiral walk. The 209 m
long spiral ramp winds 7,5 turns round the hollow core of the tower.
At the top where there is a platform 34,8 m above the street, the
visitor has a magnificent view of the inner Copenhagen.
